The Embassy of Hungary in The Hague is the official representation of Hungary in the Netherlands. The Embassy maintains and develops political, trade and cultural relations between Hungary and the Netherlands and provides consular aid and services to Hungarian citizens in the Netherlands.

As a Cultural Diplomacy and Public Relations Manager, your task will be to promote Hungarian culture and the Embassy’s activities in the Netherlands. You will develop, organize and support events that target Dutch and/or diplomatic audiences. You will report to the diplomat responsible for cultural diplomacy. You will take part in formulating and implementing a long-term cultural strategy and developing relationship with major Dutch and Hungarian cultural partners.

You will also maximise the Embassy’s coverage across traditional and social media in the Netherlands. You will actively look for new opportunities, write press releases in Dutch and English, organize interviews, maintain the Embassy’s press database and are the first contact point for Dutch journalists.

Prerequisites

  • Provision of a certificate of good conduct (Verklaring Omtrent Gedrag), issued within 3 months
  • No criminal record
  • Legal capacity
  • Agreement to carry out security check

Required competencies

  • You have at least 2 years’ experience in cultural management, PR or journalism in an international environment
  • Have a relevant higher education qualification (University BA plus)
  • Have a thorough knowledge of the Dutch cultural sector
  • Are interested in Hungary and Hungarian culture
  • Are up to date on the Dutch press coverage on Hungary
  • Follow current European discourse around society and the role of culture
  • Are able to connect the dots between this discourse and the Embassy’s activities and are not afraid of complexity
  •  Are an excellent communicator and know how to sell ideas and stories
  • Are a Dutch native speaker and fluent in English
  • Have great writing skills
  • Are a talented social media manager
  • Have experience with managing websites, via a Content Management System (CMS)
  • Have experience in complex event management and working with cultural professionals
  • Are proactive and tenacious, following up on opportunities
  • Are a great networker, who likes to build relationship both internally and externally
  • Are a multi-tasker and a team player
  • Think analytically and strategically over the long term
  • Are stimulated by an international working environment

Duties and responsibilities

1. Cultural diplomacy

  • Developing a long-term cultural diplomacy strategy under the instructions of the diplomat responsible for cultural diplomacy
  • Inputting into the Embassy’s yearly cultural planning, implementation and reporting
  • Managing the administration of the cultural budget of the Embassy (contracts, invoices etc.)
  • Staying in close contact with Dutch cultural partners, aiming for a professional presence of Hungarian culture at Dutch cultural events
  • Representing the Embassy within the EUNIC Netherlands Cluster

2. Public relations

  • Liaising with Dutch media and advising the ambassador on press issues
  • Responsible for the Embassy’s social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIN, Youtube) and homepage
  • Responsible for the Embassy’s monthly newsletter (MailChimp)
  • Maintaining the Embassy’s database of press and media contacts
  • Actively seeking new opportunities to secure high quality coverage of the Embassy’s activities in Dutch media
  • Researching, writing, disseminating and following up on press releases
  • Planning and implementing PR campaigns of the Embassy’s efforts and events

The Embassy offers
