Peace and Security Funders Group Summer Fellowship

The Peace and Security Funders Group has a Fellowship opening for the summer of 2018. This is a 10-week, part-time, paid position, and aims to hire a candidate with a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The purpose of this fellowship is to provide professional development and increase the opportunity for underrepresented communities in peace and security philanthropy, ultimately increasing diversity in the peace, security, and philanthropic sectors.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Fellow will engage in a structured curriculum, which will provide weekly professional development sessions on topics of their choosing, as well as education on the philanthropic sector and peace and security issues. The Fellow will also have the opportunity to complete resume-building “portfolio” pieces of their choice and attend meetings around D.C. on relevant issue areas. They will also support the work of PSFG with a variety of ongoing projects.

VITAL STATS

Title: PSFG Fellow
Supervisor: Program Director
Status: Part-time (15-20 hours/ week)
Compensation: $15/ hour

Travel Stipend (i.e., one round-trip bus, train, or plane ticket to Washington, D.C. for those who qualify or commuting compensation for 10 weeks)

Dates: Early June to late August (timeline is negotiable)

Location: Washington, D.C. The Fellow will work on- and off-site, as appropriate. PSFG does not provide assistance for housing in D.C.

MINIMUM RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct research for PSFG Executive Director and Program Directors, including projects focused on gathering and utilizing data sets
Develop charts and tables using Excel and qualitative survey data
Attend events on relevant pace and security issues and report back to colleagues
Assits with event planning and logistics
Develop social media (Twitter) campaigns and e-newsletter
Complete at least one portfolio piece of their choice, such as writing an op-ed, supporting grant writing, planning an expert briefing, or writing a white paper
Support the refinement of the Fellow Program curriculum, giving critical feedback to PSFG staff in order to improve the process for future Fellows

REQUIREMENTS

Must be a current undergraduate student or recent graduate
Must be available for in-person work in our Washington, D.C. office.
Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion
Undergraduate coursework or relevant experience in related field (e.g., political science, international relations, security studies, international development, human rights, regional studies, philanthropy)
Comfortable with large research and data-driven projects; experience with Excel is a must
Impeccable written and oral communication skills
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to work independently as well as collaborate with team members
Creativity, insight, and ability to think from a variety of perspectives
Good attitude, diligent, and personable. A great sense of humor is a plus!
